Upon getting the wireless dongle, I was surprised to discover that I had to compile the source for the drivers myself.

I had high hopes that it would work with an out of the box Ubuntu deb package.

I have to say, I was real excited when I saw that this Netis wireless dongle was compatible with Linux.

However, the installation software comes on a CD and my Windows laptop doesn't have a CD/DVD player!! So, after some head scratching, I put the CD in my Mac, copied the installation software to a USB drive, and put the USB drive into my laptop, and voila! it worked.Overall very satisfied, and the price was great and they even look nice.

It worked so well that I bought one for my work (Windows) computer as well. My reception and signal strength is now "very good" - not excellent, but certainly good enough to make it painless to use my Mac. So after doing some research I tried one of these for my Mac (it plugs directly into the computer), did the setup (pretty straightforward) and was very pleased with the results. I had an extender/adapter put in my front living room to boost the signal, but it didn't completely solve the problem. As a result, I was getting very weak signals on both my Mac desktop and my work Windows laptop. Unfortunately, I work from home and my office is in the rear of my unit - farthest from the router. In fact in the front portion of my unit the signal is great. My condo is on the second floor, immediately up the stairs from the first floor router and with pretty good line of sight placement for the WiFi signals. The building has a "whole building" WiFi setup with routers on the first and 4th floors. I moved to an older historic building (circa 1853) with very thick brick/masonry/lath and plaster interior walls.

it can not plug into a USB port.ġ Inexpensive and works on both Mac and PC it's larger than what one would expect a mini wireless device to be.See from the photos. there is no way to tell if the modem works because it can not fit a USB 2 nor USB 3 connection. It's also not really "mini". does not fit a USB connection.I am out the money that I paid for this.It is a manufacturing error. Just remember that you need a dual-band router to really help.ĥ Should not be on Prime. I'm not sure how great the long range throughput would be, but the short range, through walls throughput is excellent. I bought it thinking I might get a little improvement in wireless speeds but was more than pleasantly surprised. Don't need anything more for streaming and playing DVDs or perusing the Internet occasionally.BTW, I am not a shill for this product.

My computer is a Windows 7 圆4 machine running an old AMD dual-core processor with 4GB RAM and a small SSD. I originally bought this because the reviews were good. But I got tired of the slower speeds and decided to try this Netis USB adapter and WOW!!!!On the 5GHz band, I'm getting about 98% max throughput (about 57 mbps) and better than twice what I was getting before. I figured that this was due to the fact that I live in a newer townhouse with steel vertical and horizontal supports disrupting the signal. My wireless router, dual-band and supports 802.11n, is upstairs and I consistently see peak speeds of ~58 mbps for Internet connections, either via a wired NIC or a wireless NIC that is placed close to the router.I was using another Wireless-N dual band USB adapter for the mini-desktop in the living room, but only seeing max download speeds of 22 mbps. I have a mini-desktop I built to put next to my TV in the living room downstairs.
